Group Product Manager, Platform Experience

About this Role:

As the Group Product Manager, Platform Experience, you are a strategic product leader who owns the foundational systems that power every audience-facing experience BibleProject delivers. Leading a small team of Product Managers across three critical domains — Infrastructure, Shared Services (Graph API, Eventing, Authentication, Payment Processing), and Publishing (CMS, DAM, Search) — your work ensures that internal engineering teams, and someday external developers and integrators, can build on a platform that is reliable, well-documented, and designed for our mission.

The role requires thinking in terms of developer experience, API contracts, and system boundaries; balancing the tension between serving today's internal consumers and architecting for tomorrow's external ones. Your greatest satisfaction comes not from your own output but from the moment others gain clarity, confidence, and direction from your leadership — when your context-setting and coaching means three teams can move forward without waiting on you. You see yourself not only as a leader of your portfolio but as a builder of the leadership team you belong to.

This role will be an integral part of maturing the product engineering culture of BibleProject, setting and maintaining a high bar with regards to our standards and people and working to create an environment where great technical professionals like yourself can ship work worthy of our mission at a sustainable pace that reflects BibleProject values: creative, humble, thoughtful, unifying, generous, and unhurried.

What You'll Be Doing
Core Responsibilities:

Leadership
  • Manage and mentor a team of Product Managers; foster a culture of collaboration, technical rigor, and alignment with BibleProject's values.
  • Set and communicate product vision and strategy for the Platform Experience portfolio; ensure Infrastructure, Shared Services, and Publishing roadmaps are coherent and mutually reinforcing.
  • Operate as a unified leadership pair with the Group Engineering Manager, Platform Experience; maintain the alignment and shared context needed to serve as a near-perfect proxy for each other across product and engineering decisions.
  • Partner with Audience Experience group leadership to ensure platform investments are shaped by and aligned with audience-facing product delivery needs.
  • Create clarity beyond your direct reports; surface shared context and coach through decisions so teams move with confidence and autonomy.
  • Invest in the product engineering leadership team; share responsibility for its decision-making quality and ability to raise the craft across the organization.
Responsibility
  • Own the strategic roadmap for Infrastructure, Shared Services, and Publishing; align priorities with annual organizational objectives and adapt as challenges and opportunities emerge.
  • Define and evolve the developer experience for platform consumers: documentation, API contracts, onboarding paths, and self-service tooling that reduce friction and increase velocity for product squads.
  • Lead the transition from internal-only platform services toward external developer access; define the product strategy, governance model, and quality bar for externally consumable APIs and services.
  • Define and track KPIs for platform health and team effectiveness.
  • Provide direct product contributions as needed on high-priority or complex cross-cutting initiatives.
Expertise
  • Deep understanding of platform and infrastructure product management: how shared services, APIs, eventing systems, and publishing pipelines work together to enable product delivery.
  • Strong technical fluency across API design, authentication and authorization patterns, event-driven architectures, and content management systems; able to engage credibly with engineers on system design and trade-offs.
  • Experience defining and operationalizing developer experience as a product discipline: documentation, SDKs, sandbox environments, and feedback loops.
  • Communicate platform strategy, progress, and results to leadership and executive stakeholders; translate technical investment into business and mission value.
  • Cultivate coaching and leadership skills; foster a culture of continuous improvement and personal development within the team.

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of product management experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role overseeing platform, infrastructure, or shared services products.
  • Demonstrated experience managing internal platforms or shared services and evolving them toward external developer consumption, including the product, governance, and quality challenges that transition introduces.
  • Strong technical fluency; comfortable reasoning about system architecture, API design, and infrastructure trade-offs alongside engineering teams.
  • Experience operating in a cross-functional model alongside software engineers, DevOps, and product designers to discover, define, and deliver reliable platform capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills; proven ability to make platform investments legible to non-technical stakeholders and engage credibly with technical contributors.
  • Openness to BibleProject's mission, content, and paradigm for approaching the Bible.
