French Language Advisor (Contract, 1099)

Location: Remote 

Start Date: Flexible, October 2026 desired 

Duration: October 2026 - March 2027, 5-15 hours/week, with potential for renewal beyond March 2027

Payment: Negotiable based on experience

Project Overview:

We are seeking a talented linguist familiar with BibleProject’s mission and resources to join our French team as our second Language Advisor. The Language Advisor will consult with other contractors and guide the localization of our video, reading plan, and website content regarding cultural, linguistic, and theological considerations. The French Language Advisor must be a native French speaker, as well as fluent in written and spoken English. We are looking for someone who is very familiar with BibleProject’s content and style, and can ensure that the same tone and meaning comes through in our French content.

Key Deliverables 

  • Review translated content of BibleProject Français materials including but not limited to:
    • 10-15 video transcripts, audio and final renders
    • 5-10 website pieces of content like articles and guides
    • 5-10 general pieces of content like reading plans
  • Translate from English to French materials including but not limited to:
    • 5-10 Marketing materials and emails
  • Data Entry support as needed, including but not limited to: 
    • Inputting translated content on our web backend, ensuring linguistic accuracy

Required Skills/Experience

  • 5+ years of English to French translation experience, including translation of Christian content, with a portfolio or examples of relevant work
  • Strong ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Intimate knowledge of life and culture in a country where French is primarily spoken; preferably someone who has spent the majority of their life in that country and currently resides in a French-speaking country
  • Formal theological training and/or ministry background
  • First-hand knowledge of American culture and language
  • Well versed in BibleProject’s brand and content
  • Reliable internet connectivity and confidence in using digital platforms like Google Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Team-oriented, comfortable and confident working on a team of translators to determine translation choices 
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Globally minded
  • Fast learner
 

Desired Qualifications

  • Proficient in Jira Workforce Management and Dropbox

Contract Terms

  • This is a freelance/1099 contract position.
  • You will be responsible for your own taxes, benefits, and other associated costs.
  • The payment structure will be hourly and is negotiable based on experience.
